Things to know

*playing How To Save A Life by The Fray

There are many things to know in this world. One would never be able to attain knowledge of all of them. I'm sure there are many things where one would like to know the answer but can't find out the answer. Things like why that girl seemed to be interested in me yet I just don't have the f**king courage to make a move? To simple things like What is the meaning of the current orange clorets mint flavor advertisement? Not to mention deeper things like how increasing the GST to 7% can help poor people like me. I guess some things would never be known to you.

There are however some things which can be found through Wikipedia. Things like my surname's popular myth of origins:

According to historical records, people who carry the surname Lin are the descendents of Bi Gan, a loyal subject of King Zhou from the Shang Dynasty.

Bi Gan, the son of Prince Ding, son of Emperor Shang, was King Zhou's uncle. King Zhou was bloodthirsty and immoral, so Bi Gan stayed at the palace for three days and nights to try to persuade him to mend his ways. This enraged King Zhou and Bi Gan was killed.

When Bi Gan's pregnant wife, who bore the surname Chen, heard of her husband's death, she fled into some woods. In the forest the child began to come. Alone with no one to help, she grabbed ahold of two trees and gave birth. When she reached the nearest town, she gave her child the surname Lin (two trees) and named Jian.

After the Shang Dynasty was toppled by the Zhou Dynasty, the position of Bi Gan's wife and son was restored. King Wu conferred the surname Lin (meaning woods or forests) on Bi Gan's son, because he was born in some woods.

I've never been more proud of my birth date until tonight when I found out that :

July 2 is the 183rd day of the year (184th in leap years) in the Gregorian Calendar, with 182 days remaining.

It is the middle day of a non-leap year, because there are 182 days before and 182 days after. It falls on the same day of the week as New Year's Day (on non-leap years).

It beats having famous celebrities sharing the same birth date as yourself.

good pay

*playing Lips Of An Angel by Hinder

So I was working as a runner cum Library Assistant during Morgan Stanley's Asia Pacific Summit from 12th November to 15th November. The pay was good at $10 per hour on weekdays and Sunday at double. Meals were provided and we are welcome to help ourselves with the buffet spread of finger food outside the conference halls when there is no crowd.

Although I'm a runner, I'm more of a Library Assistant most of the time. It kinda sucks though. As the job scope is to stand there the whole day and when company brochures run low, I replenished it. It was really boring and probably worse than my NSF vocation. Makes me wonder why I am chosen as a Library Assitant. When some other people can be runners which requires them to work from 9th nov to 16th nov! Damm...

I took quite a few candies from the hotel though and they are now residing in my fridge. Haha.
Oh Morton's sandwiches are really good. It's no wonder my sister just can't stop telling me about them. I probably should try out their Mon-Fri daily happy hour one of these days.

There were pretty office ladies mainly from Hongkong around as well as fellow girls who were hired like me for these Summit. Though I did not really manage to interact much with them, which sucks yet again. However, I think I managed to chalk up just over $400 worth of salary over the 3 days I actually "stood guard" over the library as well as packing up. Which is not too bad. But it was really tiring, imagine working from 7am to 1am and reporting at 7am the next day. Although cab fare is provided to and fro. :-) Anyhow, to the good people from Morgan Stanley, Babara the event management company boss from Hongkong who organize this summit as well as Karen from PRST. I thank you all for this experience and really do hope I could work again next summit as any other role except library? Please?

*playing I Don't Feel Like Dancin' by Scissor Sisters

It's been a relaxing week so far. No worries about assignment and worrying for results is too soon now either. Went for aikido practices so far almost everyday just to keep myself busy oh and window shopping. To shop for clothes for my role as a event runner next week for JP Morgan Stanley.

Speaking of which I need more job lobangs. Those temporary one.. Events best. Contact me please if you know of any lobangs. Please?!

p.s : Don't feel like dancin', dancin'
Even if i find nothin' better to do
Don't feel like dancin', dancin'
Why'd you break down
when I'm not in the mood?
Don't feel like dancin', dancin'
Rather be home with no one
when I can't get down with you...

About

My Photo
Name:
Location: Singapore

Not boring not exciting, not lazy not hardworking, not handsome not ugly, not short not thin, not a bad guy not quite mommy's boy either. Regular Singaporean guy who like most guys probably get several different colours of the same shirt, t-shirt, berms, jeans once they fall in love with a particular design. Been through the era of cassette tapes of walkmans to discmans(remember the anti-shock technology) as well as MiniDisc(coming out at a bad time) which obviously lost to the emergence of mp3s and the CD to LD which saw LD losing out to VCDs. Next came the DVDs which 0wned the vcds and try to act smart by having 2 groups, HD DVD and Blu Ray. 2 words BLU.RAY. Loves to reminisce the old days when A&W rootbear float was still around and KFC was still a restaurant complete with waiters serving you Kentucky Fried Chicken. The days where bus fares were 10 cents for students and pizza hut's lunch buffets. Moves/dances to the jumpy music of Ipod Ads and likes to laugh at the Hello I'm a Mac, Hello I'm a PC advertisements!
